Paula Siegel, MFT
MFC35990

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 20 years of professional experience, in private practice working with individuals and couples since 1999.

I have had extensive post-graduate training in the field of psychotherapy for both individuals and couples. Some of my training includes, but is not limited to, Dr. Peter Levine's Somatic Experiencing ™ for people with trauma histories, and research-based couples therapy with Drs. John and Julie Gottman.

My offices are located in downtown San Rafael and San Francisco's Financial District.

I welcome your calls.

"We typically seek counseling to relieve the stress and discomfort of unhappiness, confusion, relationship conflict, loss, or the strain of major life transitions. This first step is a courageous act, acknowledging that something is amiss in our lives — and so begins the reflective process of looking more deeply into our Selves.

"I strive to create a safe, non-judgmental, compassionate atmosphere for people who choose to explore their life circumstances. With courage and a sincere openness to self-exploration, it is possible to reveal the habitual patterns of thoughts, emotional reactions, and behaviors that are no longer useful. Lasting change is possible — in the light of self-awareness.

"I feel honored to guide people through this rich and meaningful work — seekingtheir inner teacher who holds the wisdom of their life experiences."

About Couples Work

When the passion of your relationship plateaus, what's next? When your relationship reaches milestones such as the birth or departure of children, are you struggling with the adjustment? How strong is the foundation of your friendship? Do you feel that your partner understands you in essential ways? Many couples imagine that conflict indicates relationship trouble-especially when certain issues repeatedly surface with no forward movement. Research proves this need not be the case. Conflict in relationship is normal; it's how you manage conflict that matters. There are clear and learnable skills that will deepen your friendship and love.

I am passionate about helping couples navigate challenging relationship territory that is difficult and painful. Whether struggling with conflict, communication difficulties, infidelity or loss of sexual interest, I can help. My approach is informed by the latest researched methods aimed at helping improve relationship dynamics while strengthening your emotional bond.

I find deep gratification in creating a safe place for couples to enhance their capacity for listening compassionately, sharing innermost thoughts and feelings while discovering their vulnerabilities with acceptance.
